MUI Working Visit of Singkawang City to Kuching, Malaysia

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Singkawang City led by the Chairman of MUI, H. Abdul Halim Abdul Majid, Lc., conducted a working visit to Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. This visit aims to strengthen relations between Islamic institutions across countries and establish cooperation in various fields, especially in preaching and empowering the community.

The MUI Singkawang City delegation visited three important locations during this visit, namely the Islamic Information Center (IIC), Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak, and Astana Kuching Sarawak.

At the Islamic Information Center (IIC), the delegation was received by the central management of IIC. This meeting discussed strategic programs in disseminating Islamic information in a modern and inclusive manner. The Head of MUI Singkawang appreciated the IIC initiative in bringing Islamic teachings closer to multi-ethnic communities and hoped for collaboration in digital-based da’wah programs.

Furthermore, at Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak, the delegation learned about professional management of zakat, waqf, and alms. The management of Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak is considered one of the best models in the Southeast Asian region in empowering the economy of the people. H. Abdul Halim Abdul Majid said that this experience will be an inspiration to improve zakat management in Singkawang City.

The visit concluded with a visit to the Astana Kuching Sarawak, which is the official residence of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak. At this historic site, the delegation was given an insight into the cultural values ​​and history of Islam which have been an important part of the development of Sarawakian society.

The Chairman of the MUI of Singkawang City stated that this visit provided many benefits, especially in strengthening harmonious relations between Indonesia and Malaysia through religious cooperation. 

“We hope that the relationship that has been established can continue to develop and provide a positive impact for Muslims in both countries,” he said.

This visit is also expected to be the initial step for cross-country programs that support the strengthening of Islamic brotherhood in the Southeast Asia region.
