Selangor police have warned state election candidates not to touch on issues related to race, religion and royalty (3R) during the campaign period.

“We assure you that severe action will be taken against those who breach the law,” said Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

He also said the nomination process went on smoothly without incident, adding that 19,103 supporters from various parties were present at the 56 nomination centres.

He said 6,998 police personnel were deployed at the centres on Saturday (July 29).

He also said for campaigning, candidates are required to obtain police permits from the district police chief (OCPD) of each area.

A total of 147 candidates will contest in the upcoming Selangor election.

“We would like to thank all political parties involved for ensuring the nomination process went smoothly.

“We also advise the public to avoid any form of provocation that can lead to untoward incidents and affect public order,” he said.
