Kyrgyzstan, Switzerland discuss cooperation in natural disaster risk reduction

Minister of Emergency Situations Boobek Ajikeyev met with Swiss Ambassador Olivier Bangerter.

Minister Ajikeyev expressed confidence bilateral cooperation will develop successfully in all spheres, including prevention of natural and man-induced disasters.

The Emergency Minister suggested cooperation in addressing climate change effects, natural disaster risks, ensuring safety for tourists for the purpose of development of mountainous tourism in Kyrgyzstan, training of rescuers.

Minister Ajikeyev expressed gratitude for $9 million allocated by the government of Switzerland to the World Food Programme for climate change adaptation in rural areas and reduction of natural disaster risks.

Ambassador Olivier Bangerter expressed readiness for continued bilateral cooperation in disaster risk reduction.

The sides expressed hope for further cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Switzerland in prevention and liquidation of emergency situations.
