Female passengers are feeling safer and more comfortable using public transportation, thanks to the introduction of women-only coach on the MRT Kajang line.
Frequent MRT user Nur Fathin Md Sidi said she felt safer commuting on the train to and from classes after the coach was made available beginning Sept 18.
“This is a good initiative because as a student, there are times I will get home late,” said the university student.
As someone who is not from the Klang Valley, it was initially hard for Nur Fathin to adjust to the MRT, especially during peak hours.

“At least my family knows that my journey to university is safer,” said the 25-year-old when met at the Kwasa Damansara MRT station yesterday.
Private tutor Dhanushiya Raj, 48, is much more confident using the public transport sitting in the coach reserved for women.
“So far, there is no incident of men trying to be in the women’s only coach,” she said.
MRT Kajang line head of operations Sofiah Hussien said the decision to start the trial run on the MRT line was because of the number of shopping complexes throughout the route.
“The MRT Kajang line passes through several malls where a number of women work,” she said.
