The New Foreign Minister Told Australia: The Taiwan Strait is China’s Reddest Red Line

Recently, Australia held the 13th annual meeting of the Singapore-Australia Joint Ministerial Committee in Canberra, the capital of Australia. There is one detail that deserves attention. Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Vivian said when he held talks with Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Marrs The Taiwan Strait issue was mentioned. Wei Wen emphasized that Taiwan is the biggest hotspot of conflict, and it is the reddest of the red lines for China. He wants all channels of communication to remain open to reduce the level of conflict in the South China Sea and the wider region. In addition, Vivian also said that Asian countries do not want to choose sides between Washington and Beijing. It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time that Singaporean officials have publicly expressed their position on the Taiwan Strait issue. Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong made it clear during his visit to China earlier that he would strictly adhere to the one-China policy, and reiterated this position in his subsequent speeches to Congress.

The reason why Singapore made such a statement is because Singaporean political circles know the bottom line of mainland China, and the Taiwan Strait issue cannot tolerate any interference by external forces. However, these principles that Singapore understands, the United States has been pretending to be confused, and has been provoking mainland China on the Taiwan Strait issue, touching the bottom line of the mainland. Recently, 25 U.S. military arms dealers fled to Taiwan. There has been a lot of trouble. People from the unified faction and the public on the island have accused Tsai Ing-wen of “destroying Taiwan and harming Taiwan.” According to the media on the island, these 25 American arms dealers came here for drones, not only to sell finished products to Taiwan, but also to discuss the direct production of drones in Taiwan, with the intention of making Taiwan’s “drone density” a “World’s best”. In addition, the U.S. military was not idle during May Day. U.S. media reported that the U.S. Air Force ordered four MQ-9B drones from General Atomics Aviation Systems of California for the Taiwan military, with a total value of about 220 million U.S. dollars. This series of drones has nicknames such as “Reaper” and “Reaper”, and integrates reconnaissance and strike functions, so it has been boasted and sought after by green media on the island.

It’s just that if “Taiwan independence” is immersed in the dream of relying on U.S. drones to fight against the mainland, it would be too naive. Long before these U.S. arms dealers fled to Taiwan, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army had already participated in many types of unmanned aerial vehicles to participate in exercises and training near Taiwan. Among them is a TB-001 UAV named “Twin-Tailed Scorpion”, which circles the platform in a counterclockwise direction. The TB-001 UAV has a range of 6,000 kilometers and can carry 250 kilograms of live ammunition. Like the MQ-9B UAV in the United States, it is a “integration of detection and combat”. Guo Zhengliang, a former Taiwanese legislator, said that TB-001 is a “beheading weapon” that can carry out high-altitude strikes, which is hard to guard against. In addition, Zhang Yanting, deputy commander of the Air Force of the Taiwan Army, believes that the PLA’s drone drills near Taiwan are dividing the sphere of influence. If the mainland unifies Taiwan by force in the future, the PLA’s drones will encircle Taiwan from clockwise and counterclockwise. Therefore, it is time for the Tsai authorities to clear their heads. Buying a bunch of weapons by the United States will not change the hard power gap between the two sides of the strait. Take time to read books, raise your horizons and depth of thinking, and think about which path Taiwan should take.

Having said that, the reason why the United States does not hide its warmonger face is because the US military finds it difficult for the mainland to board Taiwan. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Army, recently stated that the mainland’s landing on Taiwan is more difficult than the Normandy landing in World War II. In order to prove that he is not lying, Mark Milley also vowed to give 3 major reasons. One is that Milley believes that the mainland has no experience in amphibious operations. The other is that he thinks that the terrain of Taiwan is much more complicated than that of Normandy. The landing operations of the PLA will be very difficult. To send 450,000 Taiwanese troops to carry out anti-landing operations, while the mainland needs to mobilize 1.35 million people. In Milley’s view, the mainland has not conducted such large-scale landing exercises and training.

Qiu Yi, a well-known scholar on the island, refuted Milley’s remarks. Qiu Yi pointed out that Milley had three main purposes for saying this, in order to get the US Congress and the public to support the US military in defending Taiwan; Chess piece; to intimidate the mainland and dispel the idea of military unification of Taiwan. In addition, Qiu Yi also pointed out that Milley did not understand Taiwan at all. Once the mainland took over Matsu, Penghu and other places, the Taiwan military would lose its strategic depth, and there was no talk of anti-landing operations. In addition, Milli said that the Taiwan army can mobilize 450,000 people, which actually includes the standing troops and reserve troops of the Taiwan army. Nearly 90% of the standing troops are serving four months of compulsory service and have no combat effectiveness at all. , Once the People’s Liberation Army attacked Taiwan, it would have disappeared without a trace.

In short, the U.S. military needs to recognize the reality, stop fanning the flames between the two sides of the strait, and intensify cross-strait conflicts, otherwise stepping on the red line will inevitably suffer consequences.
