Official Says Indonesia’s NTB Province to to Launch Trade Mission With Singapore and Malaysia

Indonesia’s West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) provincial government will carry out a trade mission to help its micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) enter foreign markets, namely Malaysia and Singapore.

“Our potential to market our products is very large. We were asked to send product samples of our commodities, such as weaving and pearls, which are very popular, especially in Singapore,” the head of NTB’s Trade Service, Baiq Nelly Yuniarti, said in a statement released on Saturday, September 2, 2023.

Besides superior woven products, processed fish and seafood products also have high demand in the two countries, she informed.

“There is a lot of demand for processed fish products. We hope that this new market can be utilized by our MSMEs,” Yuniarti said.

Meanwhile, Singapore trade attaché Billy Anugrah said that the NTB government has taken the right step with the trade mission since Malaysia has a similar market pattern as Indonesia.

“Considering that we have many Indonesian migrant workers (PMIs) in Malaysia, their market standards are not much different from Indonesia. Therefore, it is very strategic to promote our processed food products,” he explained.

Meanwhile, in Singapore, which is a transit country, his party will encourage NTB entrepreneurs to open collaboration, even in the form of private labels, to compete in the Singaporean market.

“Do not be afraid with the offer. Just take it. Even if it is in the form of a private label. Because the opportunity for production demand is large and a long-term contract guarantee will definitely be provided,” he emphasized.

The trade mission will be carried out from September 1 to 3, 2023, and will be inaugurated directly by the Deputy Governor of NTB, Sitti Rohmi Djalillah, at Strand Mall Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
