City police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said a team from Sentul Criminal Investigation Department’s D4 division raided a workshop in Klang on Sept 18 and arrested the four men, including three Myanmar nationals.
“During the raid, police seized four car chassis and 15 engine blocks worth at least RM83,000,” he told reporters yesterday.
Comm Allaudeen said checks revealed the stolen cars were cannibalised for parts.
“Further investigations revealed the engines were sold for between RM5,000 and RM7,000 each.
“None of the foreigners or the workshop operator arrested has criminal record,” he said, adding that the syndicate was linked to at least 15 vehicle thefts.
Five of the cases were reported in Sentul, followed by Cheras (three), Wangsa Maju (two) and one in Brickfields. Another four cases were reported in Serdang, Selangor.
Police believe that the syndicate was led by a 42-year-old local man, who has a record in vehicle theft.
Police are looking for one Liew Chin Kang, whose last known address is 12, Jalan 4/2A, Taman Wilayah Selayang, Batu Caves.
“We believe this person can shed more light,” said Comm Allaudeen. adding the four suspects had been handed over to the Serdang police for further investigations.
